The idea of stress reduction is a bit misleading as the stress response is actually our friend, evolved to help us. What we will really be working on is the cultivation of attention and the capacity to be at choice with our attention whether we are talking about thoughts, sensations, or emotions. Attention and intention are crucial to being able to determine whether our relationship to our stress response is maladaptive. And if it is, attention and intention can create a healthier way of being with our experience. Attention and focus are helpful, but the insight possible as a result of the space they create is what's truly transformative. Please know that this class meets on Thursday, for 8 weeks, and that there is a daylong (probably 10am-5:30pm, ET) silent retreat on either Saturday, May 29 or June 5. Attendance is crucial, as everyone in the class relies on the support of one another during this profound, inner journey. Signing up for MBSR is saying that you are prioritizing this deep personal and transforming work. An Orientation and 1:1 conversation prior to acceptance into the course are mandatory.
